In 1901, Augustus Johnson arrived in Your Hometown, USA with a bindle on his back and a dream in his heart. A thriving manufacturing center of almost 5,000, Your Hometown lacked affordable feed and seed for the area’s farms. And what could be found locally tended to be unsuited to dairy and vegetable farming.

Ever an enterprising individual, Augustus immediately spent his last pennies on passage to the Green Plains, where he brokered the sale of 10,000 acres of alfalfa, oats, hay, seed potatoes, and squash.

Soon, his brother March joined him, and together they successfully harvested the bounty and shipped it back to Your Hometown—a backbreaking undertaking in the days before mechanized farming practices and interstate highways.

Their industrious gamble paid off immediately. Word-of-mouth spread fast and the Johnson’s high-quality products quickly sold to the area’s farmers.

As the years passed, Augustus and March would travel back to the Green Plains time and again to personally inspect and secure the finest feed and seed stock available. In addition, they ranged far and wide to secure hardware, implements, and a full line of housewares, work-clothes, boots and stoves.

Fast-forward to the present day, and the Johnson Valley team — including the founder’s granddaughters Augustine and May— still search for the very best farm, ranch, and home supplies available. Then as now, our customers are the best in the business, and we strive to support you with supplies and equipment that work as hard as you do.

Much like our bold founder, we’ll do whatever is needed to get the job done right.
